I was born in Trinidad in 1951 and came to the UK in 1969.

After a few years in publishing and public relations, I completed a foundation course at Kingston Polytechnic followed by a textile design course at  UCA (then West Surrey Institute) in Farnham, graduating in1980 with a BA (Hons) in Textiles.

The following decades combined motherhood with working with adults with Learning Disabilities, using art and craft within Adult Education and the Social Services Day Care Centres.

My interests in the therapeutic processes led me to the Art Psychotherapy Foundation at Goldsmiths and I also helped to develop the practise of Intensive Interaction (person-centred approach to social interaction traditionally used with people with profound learning disabilities or autism) within the Day Care Services.

I combined this with private teaching of art and craft to children.

In the years prior to retirement in 2013 I worked for an international child development charity during which time I returned to my own love of drawing and painting. I now juggle this with family life and a new era of grandchildren, having moved from Surrey to Chichester in 2014.

My inspiration?  Any moment of wonder that inspires an intake of breath, a surge of excitement or a stirring of the spirit. It is that simple for me.   My love of colour must surely be influenced by my Caribbean childhood and I enjoy experimenting with different styles and techniques as the subject dictates. As with any creative process, there is always a personal journey – struggles and growth –  not necessarily revealed in the end result!
